his general survey of writing for graphic novels will include instruction on script formats, the elements of graphic novel “language”, and things to include and avoid while constructing a graphic novel. Other topics covered will include working with artists, working with editors, plotting, characterization, and thematic story constructions. There will be two writing exercises with peer review covering the creation of believable characters with powerful dialog, and creating a classical plot structure.

Graphic Novel Writing Project: The Full Script

This course will cover the basics for writing and scripting graphic novels. There will be 4 sessions with instruction and writing exercises. Students will be expected to work on their scripts in between sessions and be prepared for peer review of their work. The goal of the course is to create an industry standard 22 page script in a subject of the student's choosing! No prior graphic novel writing experience necessary. Writing for Children

This four week course will explore the various categories, markets, and techniques in writing for children. The course will be a combination of lecture, exercises, and peer review of writing samples. We will look at the current market trends, and some of the current bestsellers and classics of children's literature. Students will be encouraged to write in the genre they are most comfortable in, be it fiction, non-fiction, long form or short. Bring a pen, an imagination and step into the wonderful world of writing for an audience of children!
